Alta Bates Summit Stroke Center Earns Seventh Consecutive Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award for Improving Stroke Care

Stroke Gold Plus 2016For seven consecutive years, Sutter Health’s Alta Bates Summit Medical Center (ABSMC) has earned the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s (AHA/ASA) Get With The Guidelines® Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. In addition, Alta Bates Summit achieved the Target Stroke Elite Honor Roll Award for the quick treatment of stroke patients with the clot-breaking drug: tissue plasminogen activator, or tPA.

The awards recognize the hospital’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted standards and recommendations.

Obtaining timely diagnostics and initiation of care in the emergency department through this team effort is key to saving patient lives and preventing disability from stroke,” said Chuck Prosper, Alta Bates Summit CEO. “We are extremely honored to receive these significant distinctions in the clinical delivery of stroke care.”

Stroke Care You Can Count On
To receive the Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award, Alta Bates Summit’s Stroke Center attained at least 85 percent compliance on all Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Quality Achievement indicators for two or more consecutive years and beyond this achieved 75 percent or higher compliance with 5 of 8 additional Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Quality Measures.

The Stroke Center was also recognized as a recipient of the AHA/ASA’s Target Stroke Elite Honor Roll. This award is presented to hospitals that treat acute ischemic stroke in the most effective way possible using evidence-based guidelines. The designation means that at least 75 percent of eligible patients received tPA within 60 minutes of arrival to the hospital.

AHA/ASA’s Get With The Guidelines is a national quality- improvement program for hospitals designed to ensure care for cardiac and stroke patients follows the most up to date, evidence based guidelines and recommendations.
