At Sutter Health’s Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, community health care is a priority for more than 100 years.
Our mission statement: We enhance the well-being of people in the communities we serve through a not-for-profit commitment to compassion and excellence in health care services.
Alta Bates was founded as an eight-bed hospital for women and their infants in 1905 by Nurse Alta Alice Miner Bates. Today, Alta Bates includes the Herrick Campus, once known as Herrick Hospital and Health Center. Summit Medical Center grew out of and continues traditions that began nearly a century ago at Providence, Samuel Merritt and Peralta Hospitals. Summit is comprised of the Merritt Pavilion, the Providence Pavilion, the Peralta Pavilion, Samuel Merritt University and the Health Education Center.
Alta Bates Summit is part of the Sutter Health network of care, connecting our patients to medical experts across Northern California. In the East Bay, Alta Bates Summit and Sutter Health affiliates Eden Medical Center, Sutter Delta Medical Center and Sutter East Bay Medical Foundation provide seamless, comprehensive care throughout our region.
